Insurance Corner

A Season for Giving
With the holidays rapidly approaching, now is a good time to sit down with your Knights of Columbus agent and discuss your family’s current financial circumstances - and your plans. Life insurance is truly one of the best gifts a member can buy for his family. Think about it: What else can you put under the Christmas tree that can:

* Guarantee that the mortgage on your home would be paid off if you die?
* Provide a way for you to ensure that money is available for your children to attend college, whether you live or die?
* Ensure your family’s financial survival if you, your spouse, or both of you met an untimely death?

You probably know plenty of folks who overspend during the holiday season. Conversely, few people over-save, and plenty of folks are financially unprepared for the future. Yet, it’s by doing the latter that people demonstrate true love for their spouses and children!

Start early on some resolutions for the New Year. Save more. Allocate expenditures more wisely. Above all, ensure your family’s financial protection - come what may. With a Knights of Columbus life insurance program, your family will have the benefit of financial security for the years ahead… and be better able to celebrate future Christmases.

Financial hardship is something that you can prevent. By taking the appropriate steps now, you protect your loved ones against financial calamity in the event of your death. What’s more, the sooner you act, the greater the benefits will be for your family – and, possibly, for you as well. I wish you and yours a blessed Christmas and a prosperous New Year.

Please call me soon to set up an appointment.

Buying life insurance is something that’s easy to put off until tomorrow. And if your life is as busy as mine, tomorrow can easily become next week, next month, or even next year. I’d like to make a personal plea that you not make that mistake. Before the month is over, make an appointment to visit with me, your professional Knights of Columbus agent. I’ll work with you to put a plan in place that will help your family when that help is most needed.

We all know someone whose health, instantly and seemingly out-of-the-blue, changes. You may think this can’t happen to you. Think again. And keep in mind that no one will ring a bell warning you that your health is about to change. Medical technology has turned many diseases previously termed “death sentences” into very treatable conditions. What medical advances haven’t changed, however, is that being diagnosed with one of these diseases will dramatically affect your ability to purchase life insurance coverage. Don’t wait until it’s too late. Call me today.

Your Knights of Columbus insurance program is second to none. Knights of Columbus life insurance represents a safety net for Catholic families that’s unsurpassed, and we’re proud of that. We’re also concerned. Why? Because there are more than 1 million Knights of Columbus members who have no life insurance with us. I suspect that, for many of those 1 million members, tomorrow has become next week, next month or next year. Don’t be one of them. Don’t wait for the bell to ring. It isn’t going to. I hope to hear from you soon.

Fraternally,

If you’re like me, you derive great joy from your children. It’s a great feeling when a teacher, coach or fellow parent compliments you on your child.

We all know that raising children these days is no easy task, especially when the values we’re trying to instill in them – concern for others, accepting responsibility for their actions, saving money rather than spending it – seem to run counter to what society is trying to teach them. Yet these are exactly the values that tend to draw compliments from teachers, coaches and fellow parents.

We also know that the best way to teach is by example. If you carry enough life insurance to protect your family - and if you share with those of your children old enough to understand why that’s important, you’re exhibiting and imparting many of the values you hope your children will absorb.

You’ll show them by example that you love them and are concerned about their welfare. You’ll show them that you take your responsibility to provide for your family seriously, and that you want to make sure that they’re provided for even if you’re not around. And you’ll show them that investing money in your life insurance protection is more important than the new set of golf clubs you might want, the newest and best home theater system you’ve had your eye on, or whatever else you might be sacrificing to pay the premiums.

Sure, they’ll probably roll their eyes at you as you’re explaining this, and they’ll certainly moan and groan if they can’t get the newest CD, video game or piece of clothing. But they learn from what you do – just like they learn from what you don’t do. What lessons do you want to teach them?

I want to meet with you to review your existing coverage. Based upon that review, and on the comprehensive needs analysis that I’ll perform, free of charge, we’ll be able to put a plan in place that will meet your needs, goals and budget. Give me a call.

God Bless

Chuck Rupert

The laws and rules of our Order, as well as state (provincial) laws, specify that the Knights of Columbus may accept insurance applications from members only. As a member, you may apply for insurance on yourself, your wife and your minor children.

The Order’s Board of Directors has taken action, though, to assure that a Knight’s widow maintains the right to purchase additional insurance for a limited time. This can be of great benefit and comfort to those we leave behind.

This “right to apply” is available only to the widows of insured members. If a member has not availed himself of our highly rated life insurance program, or purchased an annuity or long-term care policy, this benefit is not available to his widow.

But if the member was an insured member, his widow has the right to apply for additional insurance on her life and on the life of the member’s minor children. This right must be exercised within one year following the Order’s receipt of proof of the insured’s death.

Know two things. First, I’ll assist your widow and children in any way possible if you should die, both with your Knights of Columbus insurance and any other life insurance you may have. Second, I’ll provide them my best professional advice and service, to assure that they have adequate insurance protection.

I have no greater responsibility.

God Bless,

Chuck Rupert

Have you ever heard the expression “lazy days of summer?” While the hot weathe may encourage a slower paced life, in many ways summer can be the busiest time of the year. Especially for parents with school-aged children. And being busy, it’s easy to forget about such things as reviewing your life insurance coverage.

The purpose of this column is to encourage you to meet with me, your Knights of Columbus agent, before the end of the summer. Whether or not you have life insurance with the Order, I’ll be happy to meet with you and make sure your coverage continues to meet your needs and goals. If you’ve had any life changes since you last bought a policy (new home, new child, new job, etc.), chances are your life insurance needs to be updated. I’ll work with you to make sure you have the coverage you need at a price you can afford.

Call me to set up an appointment. When we meet, you’ll discover that time spent with your Knights of Columbus agent is time well-spent. But, make the call today. Because summer is not only busy, it’s also coming to an end.

A new fraternal year is upon us

July 1st, 2006

A new fraternal year is upon us. Congratulations to the newly elected and appointed council leaders. I’m sure you have a list of things that you want to accomplish during the coming year. I’m eager to help.

One of these goals is likely the attainment of the Star Council award - the most prestigious award the Order offers at the council level. I’m certainly committed to helping on the insurance side, but I’ll be glad to help on the membership side as well.

If you know an eligible Catholic man who might be interested in joining the Order (and who among us doesn’t), he’s probably just waiting to be asked. I can help you, either by approaching him myself, or by “coaching” you – transferring sales skills that you can use to recruit him and other prospects. As always, I’m at your service.

What would be helpful to all of us would be an early start on those goals, rather than waiting until May or June. Let’s get an early start on award season this year.

Chuck

May 06 Newsletter/ Web site Insurance article

April 12th, 2006
If you haven’t visited the Knights of Columbus Web site in a while, I encourage you to do so the next time you’re online. There are many exciting features on www.kofc.org, but there are two that I wish to make you especially aware of.The first is our member testimonial area, titled “Stages of Life.” In this multi-media area, six “real-life” stories are told – stories of people at different stages of their lives. Chances are one of them will sound a lot like you. These people talk about how their Knights of Columbus agent took the time to demonstrate for them the need for life insurance in their lives. I’ll be happy to do that for you and your family as well.

The second is our Life Insurance Calculator. This handy, easy-to-use online tool was developed to allow you, in about 15-20 minutes, to estimate the amount of life insurance coverage you need. The information you’ll be asked to provide will be basic (the type most folks would tend to have at their fingertips), and secure (it’s intended to be used solely for the purposes of the online calculator – the Order won’t capture it or share it with anyone, including me!).

I stress that the number you’ll receive is an estimate, based on the basic information you provide. It’s not intended to take the place of the free, professional needs analysis that I’ll be happy to provide for you and your family. Give me a call – I’d like to meet with you.

March Newsletter from Chuck Rupert, Field Agent

March 15th, 2006
“I already have insurance at work.”Many jobs offer some form of group life insurance. Often, this insurance is an employee benefit provided at no charge, or for a small co-pay. Knowing that this coverage exists may convince someone that he doesn’t need to discuss personally owned life insurance with an agent. That could be a mistake.

Most forms of group life insurance are limited in amount. That amount may be tied to a salary or some other benchmark, but often there is a cap. That cap may be dangerously low for your family’s needs should you die. In fact, without a needs analysis (which I’ll be happy to provide, free of charge), it may be completely unrelated to needs at death. In addition, the amount of group insurance offered is almost always reduced – and sometimes dramatically – when you retire.

Especially today, there is the very real possibility that you could lose your job. Or that your benefits could be reduced. In either case, you can find yourself without coverage. If your health has changed in the meantime, you can find yourself out of luck.

While group life helps, it does not replace the need for individually owned life insurance. I’ll be happy to meet with you and provide a free, custom-tailored needs analysis, so that you’ll know exactly where you stand. Please give me a call.
